How I can help

Therapy

Occupational Therapists are skilled at activity analysis and the use of occupations and activities as therapy. Working together with clients and their parents I set meaningful, functional goals so that they can track their own progress.

I am skilled at selecting and using a range of therapy approaches for children and young people who are constantly developing and growing. As a Sensory Integration Practitioner I am qualified to carry out Sensory Integration Therapy. This therapy targets the underlying sensory processing and the integration of that processing in order to bring about changes in a child's abilities in their everyday tasks. This therapy approach is not available through the NHS in Scotland. (For more information refer to the Sensory Integration Education website.)

Therapy sessions may be carried out in my

clinic, your home, or any other beneficial

setting. I usually involve parents in their child's

therapy and provide accompanying activities for home or school programmes. I may write up a "sensory diet" for a child who is struggling to participate because of sensory issues.

Frequency of sessions can be worked out on an individual basis with due regard to recommended frequency of therapy as well as practicalities such as distances to travel, other demands on family time, etc.

As the parent of a young person with additional support needs I have been on a similar journey to you.  I know that family life, interacting with various services and working with your child's school can be challenging. I can support you as parents with the challenges you are facing.
